Toshi, a browser for the Ethereum network has announced the launch of its upgraded wallet. With this release, Toshi now offers native support for ERC20 tokens and ERC721 collectibles.Demand for tokens and collectibles has popped over the past few months. Many of the Decentralized Apps (DApps) supported in Toshi’s browser requires the use of ERC20 tokens or ERC721 collectibles.
Now, popular tokens and collectibles you own will show up in user Toshi wallets automatically. Users can also easily send tokens to any Ethereum address. Over the next few weeks, Toshi plans to add additional features including, transaction history, sending tokens to Toshi users in chat, adding custom tokens to your wallet, and improved support for different crypto-collectible projects.
ERC Tokens and Collectibles
- ERC20 tokens: A common standard for creating smart contract-based tokens on Ethereum. The tokens can represent any fungible (meaning each unit is the same the other units) tradable good. Under ERC20, every token has a standard set of functions eg. initial supply, name, symbol, transfer tokens, destroy tokens etc. This ensures a common language for wallets and other DApps to interact with any token. ERC20 tokens are often required to get access to decentralized services or products.
- ERC721 collectibles: A common standard for creating smart-contract based non-fungible (meaning each token has unique characteristics) tokens. ERC721 tokens are used to create crypto-collectible assets like CryptoKitties and digital art, and they might also be used to represent ownership of a variety of digital media and assets in the future.
