Blockchain and bitcoin payment processor BitPay, announced today that it is beginning a phased roll-out to allow any bitcoin wallet to be able to settle BitPay generated invoices. Previously, to pay a BitPay invoice, the particular wallet had to support BitPay URL based invoices with Payment Protocol.
“The decision, driven by merchant feedback, puts merchants back in control of which apps or exchanges they’ll accept payments from. It also empowers consumers to use any app or exchange to pay their favorite merchant. Furthermore, participating does not require any technical development or implementation.”

Back in November 2017, BitPay began to require a Payment Protocol based wallet for all BitPay invoices. The updated requirement was in an effort to improve service, and to cut down on the thousands of customer support requests every month to correct transaction errors.
